A couple of episodes later, three million Skrreea arrive on DS9’s doorstep seeking sanctuary and claiming that the race that subjugated them had been conquered by the Dominion. Quark has never heard of the Dominion, a Dosi replies “Let's just say if you want to do business in the Gamma Quadrant, you have to do business with the Dominion.” Throughout the season we learn very little about the Dominion. ![]() While the audience’s guard was down we met the Dosi, who refer Quark to “a more important member of the Dominion”, the Karemma (below). When Star Trek: Deep Space Nine found itself in a similar position in their second season, they took the opposite approach as they debuted their new Gamma Quadrant big bad: they used a Ferengi episode about Quark and a crossdressing waiter negotiating tulaberry wine sales for the Grand Nagus. If an omnipotent God-like creature thinks something significant, then the crew of the Enterprise (and the audience at home) will as well. When Star Trek: The Next Generation introduced the Borg in their second season, they did so with Q. 25 years after Star Trek: Deep Space Nine introduced the Jem'Hadar as the Dominion's troops, David Black looks back at the threat that dominated the rest of the series' run. ![]()
